Open MDF Files

MDF or Media Descriptor File is a format specific to CD and DVD storage media and is typically created with a dedicated utility. Even though they resemble the ISO files, the advantages of this file format are that it contains multiple layers and optical disc tracks that are used in dual-layer recording.

In order to be able to access MDF images, one will need to resort to an ISO-compatible software tool. Besides having the possibility to view the MDF file's contents, most of these applications will also enable users to convert the image to other file formats, according to the user's choice. Take note that while its disc data is saved within the MDF files, the header and track info will be stored in MDS files and hence, both files need to be present to access it.

Developed as a proprietary file format, the success of the MDF stems from the fact that it is more stable and wide compatibility. Other noteworthy advantages include the compression of measurement data, memory-efficient storage for channels with constant value or variable data length, storage of classification result, storage of bus traffic for common bus systems and storage of additional information about the measurement environment.
